Package types
Save reusable box and envelope presets with weight and dimensions for packing.
A package type is a reusable preset for a box, envelope, or mailer you ship in. Defining them once saves entering dimensions on every order.
Create a package type
- Go to Settings → Package Types and click New package type.
- Enter a name you’ll recognize (e.g., “Small box”, “Padded mailer”).
- Set the dimensions (length, width, height) and the empty weight of the package.
- Save it. The package type is now selectable when packing.
How package types are used
When you pack an order, choosing a package type fills in its size and tare weight automatically. Fiddle adds the weight of the items inside to calculate the total shipping weight used for carrier rates.
| Field | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Dimensions | Carriers rate by size; some use dimensional weight |
| Empty weight | Added to item weight for an accurate total |
| Name | Lets packers pick the right box quickly |
Create a package type for each carrier-supplied box you use. Carrier flat-rate boxes often have set dimensions you can match exactly.
Package types are presets only. You can still override dimensions or weight on an individual package while packing.
