Create an inventory item
Add a new item, set its SKU and units, and choose how it's tracked.

Items are the heart of Fiddle — everything else references them. Here’s how to add one.
Create the item
- Go to Inventory → Items and click New item.
- Enter a name and SKU. The SKU must be unique and is what integrations and barcodes match on.
- Choose a measurement unit (each, kg, L, etc.) — this is how you’ll count it.
- Pick an item type to categorize the item for reporting and filtering.
- Click Save.
You can’t change an item’s base measurement unit after stock movements exist, because historical quantities are stored in that unit. Choose carefully.
Choose how it’s tracked
Depending on the item, enable extra tracking:
- Lot tracking — track batches with their own expiry dates and traceability.
- Serial tracking — track each unit individually by serial number.
- Reorder point — get alerted when available stock falls below a threshold.
Set pricing
Add a default purchase cost and sales price. These pre-fill on purchase and sales orders but can be overridden per order.
Next steps
- Understand stock levels and availability
- Set reorder points and low-stock alerts
- Importing many items at once? See Import your data.
