Set up locations and warehouses
Create the warehouses and locations Fiddle uses to track where your stock lives.
A location is any place you hold stock — a warehouse, a shop floor, a retail store, or a single bin. Every quantity Fiddle tracks belongs to a location.
Create a location
- Go to Settings → Locations and click New location.
- Enter a name and, optionally, an address for shipping and receiving.
- Mark whether the location is active — only active locations appear when you receive, adjust, or transfer stock.
- Save.
Set a default location
One location can be the default. New purchase orders, sales orders, and adjustments suggest it first, so most teams set their busiest warehouse as the default.
Keep names short and consistent — “Main Warehouse”, “Returns”, “Showroom”. You’ll pick them constantly, and clear names prevent receiving stock into the wrong place.
How locations affect your numbers
Each item carries its own on-hand and reserved figures per location. The item total is the sum across all locations.
| Action | Location matters because |
|---|---|
| Receiving | Stock lands at the delivery location on the PO |
| Selling | Reservations draw from a specific location |
| Adjusting | You correct one location’s count, not the global total |
For how these quantities combine, see understanding stock levels.
Next steps
Once your locations exist, you can transfer stock between them as goods move around your operation.
