Updated June 21, 20261 min read
Items aren’t fixed once created — you can update most details at any time as your catalog changes.
Open and edit an item
- Go to Inventory → Items and open the item you want to change.
- Click Edit to make the fields editable.
- Update any of the basic details: name, description, category, image, or default supplier.
- Adjust pricing, cost, or unit settings as needed.
- Click Save.
What you can and can’t change
| Field | Editable? |
|---|---|
| Name, description, category | Yes, anytime |
| SKU, barcode | Yes, but keep it unique |
| Default unit of measure | Yes, with care — see below |
| On-hand quantity | No — use a stock adjustment instead |
You cannot edit stock quantities directly from the item screen. On-hand numbers come from transactions. To correct a count, use a stock adjustment so the change is recorded in the activity log.
Changing the unit of measure
Switching an item’s unit of measure after stock or orders exist can distort historical quantities. Only change it for items with no movement, or convert deliberately.
