Expiry dates and FEFO/FIFO

Record expiry dates on lots and pick stock in the right order with FEFO or FIFO.

For perishable or dated stock, Fiddle records an expiry date on each lot and helps you use the right batch first.

Record expiry dates

Expiry dates live on lots, so the item must be lot-tracked. When you receive a lot, enter its expiry date (and optionally a manufacture date). Each lot keeps its own expiry, so the same item can hold several batches with different dates.

FEFO vs. FIFO

When stock leaves, Fiddle suggests which lot to pick based on your chosen rule:

Rule Picks the lot with the… Best for
FEFO earliest expiry date Perishable goods, food, pharma
FIFO earliest received date General stock with no expiry

FEFO (First Expired, First Out) protects you from shipping soon-to-expire goods. FIFO (First In, First Out) keeps older stock rotating when expiry isn’t a concern.

You can override the suggested lot at pick time when needed — for example, to fulfill a customer who requires a longer remaining shelf life.

Stay ahead of expiry

  1. Filter your stock by expiry date to find lots nearing their end of life.
  2. Quarantine or write off expired lots with a stock adjustment so they leave available stock.

Expired lots stay in on hand until you adjust them out. Review and clear them regularly so they don’t get picked by mistake.
