Issue materials to a work order
Consume components from stock when production starts and handle usage variances.
Issuing materials consumes a work order’s components from stock. It’s the step that turns reserved components into actual usage when production begins.
Issue the components
- Open the work order and confirm it’s scheduled with components reserved.
- Click Issue materials.
- Fiddle lists each component with its expected quantity, scaled to the build amount.
- Confirm or adjust the quantities you’re actually taking.
- Issue — the quantities leave on-hand stock and the order moves to in progress.
If a component is lot- or serial-tracked, choose which lots to issue. Fiddle records the traceability so you can see exactly which materials went into each build.
Handle short or extra usage
If a component is short, issue what you have and adjust the remainder, or pause until stock arrives. If you use more or less than the BOM expected, edit the issued quantity before completing the order.
| Situation | What to do |
|---|---|
| Used the expected amount | Issue as listed |
| Used more | Increase the issued quantity |
| Used less | Decrease the issued quantity |
| Component unavailable | Issue partially or wait for stock |
Issuing actual quantities keeps your costing accurate — the work order compares actual vs. expected usage. See production costs and costing.
