Create and complete a work order

Produce a finished good — consume components and receive output into stock.

A work order (WO) is an instruction to make a quantity of a product. It consumes the components from the BOM and adds the finished goods to stock.

Create the work order

  1. Go to Production → Work Orders and click New work order.
  2. Choose the product to make and the quantity.
  3. Fiddle expands the BOM and lists every required component with the scaled quantity.
  4. Review component availability — short components are flagged.
  5. Save and schedule it.

A work order reserves its components when scheduled, the same way a sales order reserves finished goods. This prevents the same material being promised twice.

Issue components and complete

  1. When you start production, issue the components — this consumes them from stock.
  2. As you finish, complete the work order and enter the actual output quantity.
  3. The finished goods are received into stock at your chosen location, lot-tracked if the product requires it.

Handling variances

If you used more or less than the BOM expected, adjust the issued quantities before completing. The work order records actual vs. expected usage so your costing and stock stay accurate.

Run regulated production? Attach a batch record to the work order to capture step-by-step procedures and sign-offs for compliance.
