Configure stages

Add, rename, reorder, and remove the columns that make up a board's workflow.

Stages are the columns on a board. Configuring them lets you model your real workflow instead of a generic to-do list.

Add and edit stages

  1. Open the board and click Configure (or Manage stages).
  2. Click Add stage and give the column a clear name, such as Awaiting approval.
  3. Rename any existing stage by editing its title.
  4. Drag stages left or right to set the order work flows through.
  5. Save your changes.

New cards usually enter at the first stage, and an order is considered finished when it reaches the last one.

Remove a stage

Delete a stage you no longer need from the same configuration screen. Move any cards out of it first so no orders are left without a stage.

Removing a stage that still has cards can leave those orders unassigned to a column. Drag them to another stage before you delete it.

Tips for good stages

  • Keep the list short — 4 to 6 stages is usually enough to stay readable.
  • Name stages after actions or states (Picking, Packed, Shipped), not people.
  • Order them left to right in the sequence work actually happens.

Stages are per board, so you can tailor each order type’s workflow independently.

Next steps

Once your columns reflect your process, assign users to stages so everyone knows who owns each step.
