Partial shipments and backorders

Ship the stock you have now and keep the remainder on backorder until it arrives.

When you can’t fill an entire order at once, Fiddle lets you ship what you have and keep the rest on backorder. The order stays open until every line is fully shipped.

Ship part of an order

  1. Open the sales order under Sales → Sales Orders.
  2. Start a shipment and enter the quantity to ship for each line — this can be less than the ordered amount.
  3. Confirm the shipment. The shipped quantity is deducted from on-hand stock.
  4. The unshipped balance remains on the order as a backorder.

Track the remaining balance

Each line records what was ordered, shipped, and still outstanding.

Field Meaning
Ordered Total quantity the customer requested
Shipped Quantity sent across all shipments so far
Backordered Ordered minus shipped — still owed

The order status reads partially shipped while a backorder remains, and changes to shipped once every line is complete.

Fulfill the backorder

When more stock arrives — for example, from a received purchase orderallocate it to the open order and create a second shipment for the remaining quantity.

Review open backorders regularly so customers waiting on stock are shipped as soon as it lands.
